Un nuevo estudio sugiere que tomar café y alcohol todos los días ayuda a prolongar la vida. Antes de concretar las resoluciones de este año, (que podrían inclui tomar menos alcohol y café), considera lo que indica el siguiente estudio. Según indica la Universidad de California Irvine, «las personas quienes consumieron una cantidad moderada de alcholo y café todos los días vivieron más tiempo que aquellos quienes se abstuvieron».
El estudio fue iniciado en el 2003 y utilizó como enfoque un grupo de más de 1,600 personas edad de mayor avanzada y de más rápido crecimiento en los Estados Unidos. Las metas del estudio incluían determinar los factores asociados a la longetividad de vida, examinar la epidemiología de demencia, la velocidad de función cognitiva y examinar las correlaciones de la patología clínica.
Al final del estudio se encontró que las personas que consumieron una cantidad moderada de alcohol y café vivieron más tiempo que aquellos que quienes se abstuvieron. Las personas quienes se encontraban sobrepeso en sus 70’s vivieron más tiempo que las personas bajo peso o de peso normal. También se encontró que 40% de las personas de 90 años o mayores sufrieron de demencia mientras que el 80% estaban incapacitados (ambos más comunes en mujeres que en hombres). Y más de la mitad de las personas con demencia, sobre la edad de 90 no tienen una neuropatología suficiente en sus cerebros para explicar su pérdida cognitiva.
Por lo que se puede concluir, según el estudio, de que a pesar de que se prueba que los consumidores moderados de café y alcohol vivieron más tiempo, en su mayoría estuvieron discapacitados o con alguna dificultad cognitiva… algo para considerarse. ¿Vivir menos tiempo con calidad de vida? o ¿Vivir más tiempo con el riesgo de sufrir de demencia?
