Esta semana el Servicio de Inspección y Seguridad Alimentaria del Departamento de Agricultura anunció el retiro de sobre 2 millones de libras de pollo por su contenido de material extraños, incluyendo metal. Según el USDA, Simmons Prepared Foods (el cual se vende en Puerto Rico) está retirando varios de sus productos «listos para cocinar» que incluiría muslos, alitas, pechugas y pollos enteros.
La notificación indica que el pollo ha sido distribuido a instituciones en Alabama, Arizon, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma y Pennsylvania. Instituciones podría significar restaurantes, escuelas, hospitales, y distribuidores. Sin embargo, de los productos retirados, se indica que no han sido distribuidos a supermercados.
«La seguridad alimentaria es un asunto muy serio en Simmons», dijo la compañía en un comunicado el miércoles. «Es por eso que Simmons ha emitido un retiro preventivo y voluntario de aproximadamente 2 millones de libras de productos de pollo frescos y congelados … Estamos trabajando estrechamente con las autoridades reguladoras y los clientes afectados para acelerar este retiro del producto».
