Claro que muchos hemos escuchado sobre Río de Janeiro y unos cuantos hasta han ido de visita. Localizado en el sureste de Brasil, Río es conocido mundialmente por la estatua del Cristo Redentor, las hermosas playas de Copacabana e Ipanema y por el Parque Nacional de Tijuca. Sin embargo, Río ahora tiene otra razón por la cual debemos conocerlo, ya que es la primera ciudad olímpica de América del Sur.
Brasil oficialmente ha abierto sus puertas a los atletas que participarán en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río Janeiro 2016 y nos han dejado saber en dónde se estarán alojando. Se trata de la Villa Olímpica, compuesta por 31 edificios con un total de 3,604 apartamentos que tienen la capacidad de hospedar a más de 17,000 atletas y oficiales. Estos se encuentran en el vecindario de Recreio dos Bandeirantes al oeste de Río.
El complejo de apartamentos incluye áreas para ejercitarse, tales como carriles para correr bicicleta, un grandioso gimnasio y también una gigante área de comedor. Los atletas y oficiales tendrán la opción de escoger entre una gran variedad de comidas internacionales, incluyendo lo mejor de la gastronomía brasileira.
Villa Olímpica hizo su apertura con el alcalde de Río, Eduardo Paes, junto al presidente de los Juegos Olímpicos de Rio de Janeiro 2016, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, y nada más y nada menos que el jugador de baloncesto y ganador de dos medallas Olímpicas, Janeth Arcain.
