Dos de los grandes en el mundo de la tecnología se han unido para levantar a Puerto Rico tomando iniciativas innovadoras para proveer apoyo de recuperación tras el paso de del catastrófico huracán hace ya casi tres semanas. Tesla y Google han creado proyectos en colaboración con el gobierno de Puerto Rico para ayudar a los ciudadanos del país en momentos de gran necesidad.
Por un lado, gracias a Google, tenemos el proyecto Loon que consiste en globos que viajan en los limites del espacio y permitirá transmitir señales de telecomunicaciones mediante ellos que volarán a 65,000 pies de la isla. Estos globos están diseñados para ampliar la señal LTE de los celulares e Internet para personas en sectores rurales y áreas de poca señal. El proyecto Loon crea conexiones de velocidades altas vía el socio de telecomunicaciones mas cercano a la tierra, se envía a través del globo, y regresa a sus usuarios pertinentes. El Proyecto Loon de Google es esencial para la recuperación pues 83% de la isla todavía está sin comunicación telefónica.
Por otro lado, los grandes en la industria de automóviles y tecnología, Tesla ha creado un plan para renovar la energía eléctrica en la isla utilizando paneles solares y baterías alternas. El CEO de Tesla Elon Musk quiere recuperar la electricidad en la isla lo mas pronto y eficientemente posible. Musk compartió a fines de la semana pasada nuevas iniciativas de baterías alternas para la isla. La compañía enviará instalaciones de baterías para renovar la electricidad en Puerto Rico. Lo más importante de esta iniciativa es la importancia de los paneles solares pues las baterías no consumirán combustibles fósiles.
Las baterías Powerwall son baterías alternas que Tesla anunció a principios del año pasado que funcionan con paneles solares para generar energía para el hogar. Éstas baterías pueden generar y almacenar energía generada a través de paneles solares para proveer energía de emergencia luego del paso de María. Tras el paso del huracán, solo 9% de la isla se encuentra con energía; Tesla comento que ha tomado esta iniciativa con islas mas pequeñas alrededor del mundo pero “no hay limite de escalabilidad y esto se podrá hacer en Puerto Rico también.”
Ambos proyectos están siendo discutidos con el gobierno de Puerto Rico y son, simplemente, dos ejemplos de los proyectos mundiales que se están llevando acabo para levantar a puerto rico alrededor del mundo. Muchas companias privadas, celebridades, y ciudadanos alrededor del mundo están tomando acción de diversas maneras para ayudar a la isla a recuperar.
