Todo el que usa paneles solares tiene su opinión propia sobre la dirección hacia donde deben apuntar. Varios piensan que deben posicionarse hacia el sur para que el sol le de a través del día, mientras que otros piensan que debe ser hacia el oeste para poder tomar ventaja de los rayos del atardecer.
Una empresa en Austria, bajo la dirección de Tomas Daubek y Alexandar Swatek, desean ponerle fin a este debate. Tomando como inspiración la reacción y el movimiento de un girasol ante la trayectoria del sol, Daubek y Alexandar crearon un sistema fotovoltaico, todo-en-uno, llamado “smartflower POP”.
El “smartflower POP” está diseñado para permanecer cerrado cuando no está en uso. Una vez sale el sol, las aletas metálicas (parecidas a pétalos) se abren y forman un círculo de 18 metros cuadrados, bien parecido a un girasol. Según la empresa, El “smartflower POP” sigue el movimiento del sol a través del cielo y se mueve en ángulos de noventa grados para absorber los rayos de una manera hasta 40% más efectiva que el sistema estacionario. Una vez el sol cae, las aletas se cierran y el sistema queda protegido.
El sistema cuenta con dispositivos que lo protegen contra elementos que pueden causarle problemas. El “smartflower POP” mide las velocidades del viento. Si las velocidades llegan a 34 millas por hora, los pétalos metálicos se cierran para prevenir daños y una vez los vientos bajan la velocidad, estos vuelven a abrir.
Los paneles solares del sistema están hechos de cristal delgado e impermeable. Estos abren y cierran los pétalos y, a la misma vez, remueven polvo y sucio. Una ventaja del “smartflower POP” es que, como no tiene que ser montado en un techo, usa el viento que recibe en la parte trasera. Esto causa que la temperatura se mantengan de 10 a 20 grados más frío que una instalación regular de techo.
El “smartflower POP” puede llevar entre 3,400 y 6,200 kilovatios por hora al año. La compañía garantiza el trabajo de esta tecnología por 25 años. El sistema está disponible en 8 colores distintos y es estilo “plug-and-play”. La instalación es de menos de una hora y se ancla al piso. Si el consumidor se fuese a mudar, se puede llevar el sistema con facilidad.
