El baño diseñado por el profesor Joseph Wheeler y sus estudiantes, de la Universidad de Virginia Tech, hizo su debut en el Show de Cocina y Baño de Industria, en Las Vegas. Este combina un diseño innovador con tecnología para el hogar, para crear un baño totalmente futurista.
Esta investigación de diseño, propone un método alterno de construcción, un método pre-diseñado y de alta calidad para el montaje de hospedaje urbano de densidad mediana o grande, a un costo mas bajo, mas seguro, y de mas eficiencia energética . Adicionalmente, la tecnología esta totalmente integrada dentro de la construcción y diseño del mismo.
Algunos de sus beneficios incluyen, un televisor en una pantalla de cristal, localizado en la parte delantera de la bañera. Este, incluye acceso a Netflix, perfecto para aquel que se quiera relajar con una película o serie durante su baño. Sus luces son ajustadas de acuerdo a tu reloj del ritmo circadiano para promover comodidad psicológica, también se ajustan de acuerdo a alguna actividad o tarea, por ejemplo, la aplicación de maquillaje.
La temperatura del agua puede ser ajustada a travez de moción de manos o comando de voz. El espejo provee información como el trafico, la temperatura, la hora, su consumo de agua diario, e inclusive hasta su peso, utilizando una escala integrada en el piso del hogar. La escala integrada en el piso, también puede medir impacto y detectar si alguien se resbala y se cae mientras este en el baño. Este envía una alerta para ayuda a través de mensaje de texto.
El mostrador incluye reconocimiento de huellas dactilares que permite que cada persona ajuste el mostrador a su estatura perfecta, y tenga sus ajustes automáticos personalizados, como el cambio de temperatura al toque de su mano. La tecnología le permite crear mas de dos ajustes personalizados, ideal para aquellos que viven con mas de una persona en su hogar. El mostrador, que puede ser elevado o bajado, también es muy conveniente para los discapacitados , ya que les permite acceso fácil a las sillas de rueda, simplemente removiendo la gaveta inferior.
