El primer viernes de junio marca el Día Mundial de las Donas, por lo que varios establecimientos en Puerto Rico han aprovechado la oportunidad para deleitar a sus clientes con donas completamente gratis.
El Salvation Army estableció el primer Día Internacional de las Donas en 1938 en Chicago. Su origen llega en durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, en donde el Salvation Army tenía personas llamadas «Donut Lassies» quienes le servían donas a los soldados. Hoy, el Salvation Army continúa celebrando su trabajo entregando un dulce regalo a los necesitados, y a los amantes de las donas en todo el país el primer viernes de junio anualmente.
Aunque varios establecimientos no trabajan directamente con la organización, conmemoran el día regalando la delicia dulce a sus clientes.
