Los ruidos producidos por los fuegos artificiales y la pirotecnia en navidad y despedida de año le produce mucha ansiedad a las mascotas, por lo que es importante tener en cuenta cómo podemos proteger a nuestros hijos de cuatro patas.
Los gatos y los perros son 4 veces más sensibles a los sonidos que los humanos, situación que les puede producir angustia, taquicardia, temblores, falta de aire, nauseas, aturdimiento, pérdida del control, miedo y hasta la muerte. Por eso las siguiente recomendaciones podría ayudar a minimizar el efecto los ruidos excesivos durante las festividades.
· Utilizar una camisa de fuerza (thunder shirt)– Con esto los animales sienten que los abrazan, lo que los hace sentir seguros. Se pueden conseguir en tiendas especializadas en mascotas y a través de Amazon.
· Darle una pastilla calmante– A pesar de que puede ser adquirida en tiendas por departamento, es aconsejable que el veterinario se lo provea porque debe ser de acuerdo al peso y a la condición de salud del animal.
· Ejercitarlos– Es recomendado que los animales hagan mucho ejercicio durante el día, para que luego, en la noche, estén cansados y con sueño.
· Colocarlos en un lugar seguro– Las mascotas tienden a escalar y a brincar cuando sienten mucho ruido a su alrededor. Debe colocarlos en un lugar dentro de la casa, lejos de cristalería u objetos con los que se pueda hacer daño. Ya ubicados en un lugar seguro, puede ponerle música y juguetes. Además, debe asegurarse que tenga collar con chapa, donde indique el nombre, el número de teléfono del dueño, para que lo puedan contactar en caso de que, por alguna razón, se pierda.
· Es de suma importancia que los animales NO sean amarados, para evitar que se vayan a ahorcar ellos mismos.
