Durante los pasados años hemos visto una tendencia hacia el desarrollo de la energía solar. Los módulos o paneles solares se han convertido en una opción efectiva a largo plazo. A nivel global, el gobierno ha invertido para hacer crecer y dar el ejemplo sobre esta nueva tecnología. Hasta en Puerto Rico se encuentran establecimientos gubernamentales que se rigen por la energía solar o renovable.
Esta nueva tecnología sigue evolucionando; recientemente un equipo de investigadores de Michigan State University crearon un panel solar completamente transparente.
Hasta ahora, los módulos solares solo se pueden encontrar semi- transparente o teñido, pero este nuevo desarrollo presenta paneles tan claros como el cristal. Para lograrlo el equipo del Estado de Michigan creó un “Transparent Luminescent Solar Concentrator” (TLSC), que emplea sales orgánicas para absorber longitudes de ondas de la luz que ya son invisibles para el ojo humano.
Este avance podría ser el comienzo de un mundo donde las ventanas o incluso edificios enteros podrían generar energía solar.
