Puerto Rico se deja sentir en todas partes del mundo. El dueño de este hogar, en Washington DC, decidió darle un toque de la isla del encanto a esta propiedad. El dueño fue criado en Puerto Rico y desde un principio estaba claro que su casa centenaria necesitaba servir como recuerdo de la isla. Los arquitectos y desarrolladores del proyecto se enfocaron en tres elementos clave. Estos son el color, la luz y la materialidad. Todo con el propósito de crear un diseño fresco y lleno de vida en este espacio de 2,400 pies cuadrados.
La compañía Kube Architecture removió la mayoría de las paredes interiores y de esta manera transformó el plano de piso a un área abierta. Añadieron ventanas grandes en ambos niveles de la parte posterior de la casa y un traga luz para crear luz natural abundante a través de la casa. Las escaleras abiertas y los colores claros intensifican el ambiente.
Los colores anaranjados, amarillos y verdes usados en el diseño son tradicionales en Puerto Rico. Las elementos escultóricos y los artes funcionan para darle un efecto tridimensional a esta área cuando se compara con el resto de los colores neutrales de la casa. La casa cuenta con terminaciones de álamo y bambú para el piso, en el área de las escaleras y las molduras de las lámparas.
