En Puerto Rico el peligro de un tsunami es real, ¿Sabes qué hacer en caso de Tsunami? Desde 1867, dos tsunamis han afectado las costas, produciendo muerte y destrucción en 1867 y 1918. Aunque la fuente de los tsunamis históricos ha sido terremotos locales, también se podrían generar por terremotos regionales y distantes, un deslizamiento submarino y con mucho menos probabilidad (en el caso de Puerto Rico), por una erupción volcánica o impacto de un cuerpo celeste.
ANTES
1. Si vive en una zona cercana al mar, ubique las posibles rutas de evacuación.
2. En caso de alerta de tsunami, manténgase informado y listo para actuar.
3. Aprenda a apagar correctamente los suministros de agua, gas y electricidad de su hogar.
4. Reúna previamente a su familia para definir un plan de emergencia en caso de tsunami.
5. Capacítese junto a sus compañeros de trabajo para la preparación de brigadas.
6. Mantenga siempre a la mano un botiquín de primeros auxilios.
7. Tenga a su disposición una linterna y una radio, con baterías de repuesto.
8. Cuente con una reserva de comida no perecible y muchas botellas de agua.
9. Prepare una mochila con artículos de primera necesidad y ropa de abrigo.
10. Participe en todos los simulacros.
DURANTE
1. En caso de alarma de tsunami, prepárese para evacuar inmediatamente.
2. Mantenga la calma, no salga corriendo y evite entrar en pánico.
3. Active su plan de emergencia y siga las rutas de evacuación previamente establecidas.
4. Aléjese de la zona costera, debe desplazarse hacia un lugar que sea alto.
5. Utilice la radio a pilas para mantenerse informado sobre lo que está ocurriendo.
6. A través de la radio, siga las recomendaciones de los organismos de socorro.
7. No olvide llevar consigo el equipo de emergencia previamente mencionado.
8. Permanezca con su familia en un lugar seguro, y ayude a calmar a los demás.
DESPUÉS
1. Verifique que toda su familia se encuentra a segura y a salvo.
2. No regrese a la zona costera hasta que las autoridades comuniquen que puede hacerlo.
3. Manténgase muy atento, recuerde que pueden haber varias olas en simultáneo.
4. Si se encuentra atrapado avise mediante gritos, y si le es posible, celulares o teléfonos.
5. Verifique el funcionamiento de sus teléfonos, y solo utilícelos en caso de emergencia.
6. Esté atento a las recomendaciones de los organismos de socorro a través de la radio.
7. Después del tsunami, la zona afectada estará inundada y será peligrosa, tenga cuidado.
