En abril 22 se celebra el día mundial de la Tierra, en donde se concientizar sobre la importancia de proteger el planeta utilizando varios métodos que incluyen energía renovable, reciclaje, la limpieza ambiental entre otros.
Sin embargo cuando pensamos en reciclar, puede que se sienta como una tarea pesada que solo existe para complicarnos la vida, sin embargo no necesariamente tiene que ser así. Hay pequeñas tareas o actividades que cada individuo puede realizar para mejorar el planeta. Adelante, te mostramos pequeñas tareas que puedes realizar con tu familia en apoyo al mejoramiento del medio ambiente.
Recuerda, el día mundial de la Tierra no debe ser solo el 22 de abril, sino, todos los días.
1. Use bolsas de tela o reciclables cuando compre en el supermercado. Esto no debe ser muy difícil ya que en Puerto Rico se tomó una medida en que obliga a los supermercados a vender las bolsas pláticas o proveer bolsas de papel gratuitamente.
2. Done a alguna caridad o venda ropa vieja. No tire su ropa vieja a la basura, su ropa le puede ser útil a personas de escasos recursos. De estar demasiado deteriorado para donar, recíclelo. En Puerto Rico, algunos municipios como Caguas han establecido canes de reciclaje de textiles. También existen páginas en facebook y otras redes que donde puedes vender trajes de gala como de novia, o prom ya que son trajes que se utilizan una sola vez.
3. Done o venda sus muebles. Como ser humano adulto, aveces llega la hora de cambiar de muebles. No los tire a la basura, dónelo o véndalo (aunque no recupere el costo completo) a alguien quien tal vez los pueda reparar o tapizar y continuar utilizando.
4. Deja de comprar agua embotellada. Estamos en el 2019, es hora de que deje de adquirir agua embotellada cuando existen filtros de agua. Como puertorriqueños todos debemos tener acceso a agua potable, pero si aún no confías en el sistema de limpieza de la AAA, aún no es excusa para seguir comprando agua. Compre a cambio, un filtro. Hoy en día existen botellas de aguas con filtros, filtros para canes de agua para la nevera, inclusive ya son pocas las neveras que no tienen un dispensador de agua.
5. Compre al por mayor. Comprar 10lbs de pollo en Sam’s o Costco, aparte de ser más económico a la larga, utiliza también menos empaques. Imaginate comprar 1.5lbs de pechugas todas las semanas… ahora imagina todo el plástico de envoltura y foam (no reciclable) que se desperdicia. Considera comprar papel de baño/toalla, líquido de fregar, detergente y meriendas al por mayor para utilizar menos materiales no reciclables.
6. En lugar de usar servilletas de papel, se pueden usar servilletas de tela. Además, las personas pueden usar productos recargables como productos de limpieza, aerosoles para el cuerpo e incluso alimentos como jugos.
7. Utilice su correo electrónico. Tome un par de horas para sentarse a su computadora para solicitar todas sus facturas por correo electrónico. Vivimos en un mundo digital, ya no hay razón por la que tienes que recibir una factura en papel. Inclusive, existen compañías dispuestas a darte un descuento solo por acogerte a la facturación electrónica.
8. Minimice el uso de servilletas y vasos plásticos. En lugar de usar servilletas, utilice paños reusables. Por otra parte, muchos lugares como Starbucks están comenzando a dejar de utilizar sorbetos plásticos y aceptan el BYOC (bring your own cup) es decir, traer su propia taza. En lugares que aún proveen sorbetos de plástico, puede simplemente solicitar que no lo incluyan o adquirir el suyo propio de metal.
9. Cambie sus bombillas a LED. Cuando se trata de energía, considera algo que no solo te ayude en el bolsillo, pero que ayude el planeta también. Las bombillas LED ahorran hasta un 80% de energía en comparación con bombillas regular (halógeno).
