El minimalismo comenzó como un movimiento artístico en la década de los 60. Se caracteriza como simplicidad extrema como una forma literal. En cambio, el maximalismo se describe no como lo contrario (que significaría «hoarding» extremo), pero simplemente como el rechazo a minimalismo.
Diseñadores y artistas a traves de los años han podido encontrar belleza dentro de ambas tendencias y son modas que se pueden aplicar a varias disiplinas, incluyendo artes finas, diseños de interiores, arquitectura, y moda.
¿Sabes si eres minimalista o maximalista?
El minimalismo se define por un concepto básico, la eliminación de exceso. Ahora bien, no necesariamente significa que es la manera correcta de vivir, sino, se deriva de un estilo de vida más consciente. Mas consciente en en funcionamiento de las cosas, de tu propio comportamiento y la practicabilidad de tener menos posesiones de materiales.
Como mencionado anteriormente, el maximalismo NO se define como el antagonismo de minimalismo (eso significaría tener y guardar absolutamente todo lo que has ido acumulando a través de tu vida). El maximalismo se enfoca mayormente en cómo se ve la estética de una habitación. Simplemente significa que cada pieza (ya sea cuadro, mueble, decoración) está colocada en un lugar por un propósito visual.
La popularidad del minimalismo ha causado una idea equivocada de lo que es realmente el maximalismo y una connotación negativa que solo ha sido dentro de los últimos años se ha comenzado a aclarar.
A pesar de que se asocie con tonos claros y neutrales, el minimalismo puede ser versátil siempre y cuando los colores tengan un propósito, se pueden utilizar como una manera de llemar la atención a cierto lugares para identificar áreas importantes. Se pueden utilizar para llevar a las áreas de uso de la habitación también.
