Hoy día el estilo retro o vintage han tenido un «boom». Gran parte de la juventud anda buscando muebles, objetos decorativos y hasta ropa que definan ese «look» antiguo o de época para ambientar el hogar. El estilo «Shabby chic» es una gran alternativa a la cual podemos recurrir si tenemos estos gustos antes mencionados. Este estilo se originó en Gran Bretaña cuando estaban de moda las grandes casas de campo. En estas casas era común encontrar muebles y cortinas de cretona desgastada y descoloridas, y también pinturas humildes que representaban el buen gusto. El “Shabby chic” consta de una fusión entre elementos antiguos y elementos modernos. Su paleta de colores mayormente basada en el blanco, sin embargo, también utilizan en abundancia los tonos pasteles, tales como el rosa, verde. Debo mencionar que es común presenciar patrones o diseños florales.

Muchos se deben preguntar en dónde se pueden conseguir elementos decorativos para este estilo, esto tiene una respuesta muy fácil. Las tiendas de antigüedades o tiendas de segundas manos son minas de oro para conseguir estos objetos, pues por lo regular están cargadas de mesas, sillas, telas y lámparas que representan perfectamente el “Shabby chic”.

Otra alternativa que está a nuestro alcance es modificar un poco nuestro mobiliario, es decir, podemos pintar varias veces una mesa, un escritorio o una silla para que luzca más antiguo de lo que realmente es. El resultado tendrá un aspecto “retro”, victoriano y elegante a la misma vez. Seguro que muchos de nosotros tenemos la casa llena de elementos que podemos aplicar y definir este estilo. Pongamos en práctica el “Shabby chic” en nuestro hogar.
